About Us
The Jamaica Association of Nurse Anaesthetistss (JANA), founded in 1971, was created to address key challenges in the nurse anaesthesia field in Jamaica, such as limited specialization, inadequate resources, and lack of recognition. Key objectives include establishing a national accreditation board, obtaining malpractice insurance, achieving licensure for members, and expanding training. Over the years, JANA has made significant strides, including the establishment of the Jamaica School of Nurse Anaesthetists, formalized training programs, and the creation of recovery units in hospitals. JANA is also a prominent member of international organizations, like the International Federation of Nurse Anaesthetistss (IFNA). The association’s mission focuses on advancing anaesthesia care standards and ensuring the socio-economic welfare of nurse anaesthetists, with an emphasis on professional development, advocacy, and international cooperation.
